San Francisco December 2000
It has become a tradition to visit San Francisco around Christmastime.  Last year we all went with Elena before Christmas.  This year Glenn and Austin went with Elena on December 28th.

Here is Elena at our first stop, Pier 39.

Austin loves the mini donuts made fresh at the pier.  We all love looking in the shops.

Apparently the sea lions love the pier just as much as the tourists.

There were about 100 of these fellows on several platforms placed there just for them.

Glenn took a shot of a couple enjoying the view.

We later bumped into them while shopping.  He works for a computer company and she is from Finland.

Elena found this hanging chair to be too comfortable to miss.

Jordan wants a hanging hammock in place of his bed.

It was just a little hazy when we arrived but the day cleared by the afternoon to lovely blue skies.

That is the former federal penitentiary Alcatraz in the distance.

Our next stop was Golden Gate Park.

While Austin checked out the crocadiles and fish at the Steinhart Aquarium, Elena and Glenn visited the deYoung museum.

Even before entering the museum there were some rolling pieces of art on the lawn.

Glenn especially liked this old Lincoln v-12.

There are not too many pieces of art that can be photographed in the deYoung, but this life sized marble statue of King Solomon caught Elena's eye and Glenn's camera.

Luncheons are served in a beautiful courtyard behind the deYoung.

Here is Elena and Glenn in front of the deYoung.

The museum is being demolished because it is not earthquake safe.  A new deYoung will be built in its place

Same pose, same place, but Austin gets into the act with dad.

Next stop was the Japanese Tea Garden next to the deYoung.

It is very nice and well known worldwide, but Austin and Glenn still like the garden in Portland better.

Not an easy bridge to cross but that is not why the glum look on Austin.

The poor guy had to sit there for nearly 20 minutes until enough people cleared the bridge dad could see him with the camera.

On the way out of the park this mother was emptying playground sand from her daughter's shoes.

All that sand on the ground was in those tiny shoes!

Glenn loves to visit Haight-Asbury.  There is always something fun to see.

Dinner was at a Lebanese restaurant where we watched the locals, tourists, and panhandlers go by.  Even Fido got into the act!
