After leaving our floating home in Boston, we stopped by to visit our
friends who had a son with the same rare markings as Austin.
In
between teaching karate at their dojo and chasing little Alex around the
place, we had a nice chat then it was off to Gloucester, the New World's
first commercial port and home of the "Perfect Storm"
Downtown Gloucester is quaint and lovely.
The fisherman's memorial is on the harbor. The
house in the background with the picket fence is where we stayed.
Possibly the biggest Ginko Bilboa tree in the world, Austin is dwarfed
by this one behind the house where we stayed. As the only
guests at the bed and breakfast, we had the whole place to ourselves.
Beachcombing in the rain didn't yield any shells, but was fun anyway.
That house would be great for a Halloween party.
A real working port, much of the fish we have for dinner comes from
the icy north Atlantic through Gloucester.
As beautiful as it looks, that creek in the foreground is actually
sewage and it stunk like heck.
We had dinner at a dockside restaurant with this for a view.
